Description
design is drizzled with warm, rich colours.
Lunchtime at the folly. The ornamental lake glimmers in the autumn sun, and the leaves flash with deep reds and fiery oranges. Time for another slice of carrot cake, you think.
The design on these splendid rococo plates was first commissioned by the Duke of Gloucester in 1770, who wanted something more lively and casual for his tables. The colourful fruits and insects give off a cosy air of fairy-tale and whimsy, while still being grounded amongst the tastes of Georgian high society. They’ll add colour and elegance to any meal they grace with their presence.
